Selecting the Right Sheen

Selecting the Right Sheen

Selecting the right sheen is as important as choosing the color. What sheen you use depends on the degree of gloss or rerflection you want, as well as the ease of cleaning and durability. A general rule is the shinier the paint finish, the better it will stand up to washing and cleaning.

Use these tips to help you select the perfect paint finish for your project. Of course, Echelon Premier is formulated with Scotchgard Protector so you can use any finish anywhere and have the maxiumm washability. Selecting an Echelon Premier finish is only limited to your gloss preference.

Flat Finish

This non-reflective finish camouflages surface imperfections and is best suited for low-traffic areas since marks and stains are difficult to remove. The surface has a chalky appearance like unglazed tile.
Where to use: Living room, Dining room, Family room, Bedroom

Eggshell Finish

Picture the low sheen of the shell of an egg and you will have an idea of how this finish will appear. When viewed at an angle the slight sheen is apparent.  This finish will hide some imperfections and is more dirt-resistant and more washable than a flat finish.
Where to use : Living room, Dining room, Family room, Bedroom, Hallway

Satin Finish

This sheen is considered the most versatile. The finish is slightly higher than the eggshell finish making it a good choice for those wanting a fairly non-reflective finish that is easier to clean. It will hide some imperfections, but only when a light isn’t shining on it.
Where to use: Living room, Dining room, Family room, Bedroom, Hallway, Kitchen, Bathroom

Semi-Gloss Finish

This finish has a slightly glossy appearance. The higher sheen provides a harder, smoother finish with maximum durability. It is easiest to clean and resistant to stains from grease, mold, mildew, food and other hard to remove marks. It is a good choice for high traffic, heavy use areas that need frequent scrubbing. Take care with paint preparation work as the higher gloss of this finish will accentuate imperfections.
Where to use: Hallway, Kitchen, Bathroom, Playroom, Trim
